Our President Jay Sutherland began in 1988 by servicing local contractors in the Kitchener- Waterloo area with the repairs and cleaning of electronic equipment. In 1992, he established the RELECTRONIC-REMECH INC. brand in Ontario. As the company reputation for dependability and accurate evaluations grew, two more employees joined the team – Greg Gummerson as a Technical Consultant and Sue Hoffman as Office Manager; both individuals are still with the organization. Soon, Jay and Greg were scoping large losses for insurers via independent adjusters, and managing residential losses for contractors. In 1999, Jay expanded the company services, adding large commercial grade restaurant equipment for commercial insurers.
In 2002, RELECTRONIC-REMECH INC. established an office in Mississauga to service the GTA and surrounding areas, north to Barrie and east to Oshawa. Paul Norris-Lue joined our organization at this time as a Technical Consultant and worked from our Mississauga office for several years. In 2008, we moved to a larger facility in Mississauga to accommodate the company’s continued growth. After residing at our Mississauga location for 10 years, we, again, had to move into a bigger location to support our growing and expanding staff. In the Spring of 2018, we moved to our current location in the Erin Mills area of Mississauga. We now have eighteen employees in this office, many of whom have been with the company for over 10 years.
In 2006, Jeff Sutherland joined our company as an expert in restaurant losses, and now manages our satellite office in the Barrie – Georgian Bay region. In 2013, Van Chau came to us with a strong background in large-scale electronics. He will focus on losses in the east end of Toronto, and as far east as the Belleville and Peterborough areas.
In 2015, Shaun Knapp moved from our Mississauga office to the Ottawa region to help expand our services to those living in the Ottawa Valley. Due to his knowledge, expertise, and attention to detail in his work, the company’s presence grew year after year and, in the Fall of 2018, we were able to open a physical location in Nepean to help us better serve the Ottawa Region.
In the Fall of 2017, we expanded our Sr. Consulting team with the hiring of Kirk Labelle. Kirk joined us from Makino, a world leader in CNC machines, where he was a Service Manager for over 15 years. He brings a wealth of knowledge in CNC machinery, electronic control board diagnostics, and automated manufacturing processes.
RELECTRONIC-REMECH INC. now has 45 employees between our four locations. Janet O’Donnell has been with the company for over 10 years and is our current District Manager. Janet’s background is in logistics and office administration leadership roles. She is backed by Maryann Rhodes, our Mississauga office supervisor, along with an exceptional support staff.
Our senior consultants have travelled to losses across Canada. In 2013, Paul acted as a Project Manager working with adjusters and contractors of the arena loss in Medicine Hat. He was instrumental in facilitating the opening of the arena, much sooner than anticipated. In 2016, Jay and a rotating crew of 12 technicians, spent three months in Fort McMurray, helping to clean and restore the TV’s, appliance, and other electronics in over 1600 rooms across 9 different hotels. More recently, Greg has been helping insurance companies deal with ransomware and malware claims as they become more prevalent within our industry. In addition to this, Kirk has traveled to the Western part of Canada to help with a CNC machine in Calgary, a tire recycling factory in Edmonton, and a factory in Victoria, BC. We now include large mechanical equipment, manufacturing equipment, and data recovery on our roster of service.
